I went into the series expecting it to match the anime beat for beat, and I can honestly it didn’t do that. My initial reaction was “that’s not how it happened” and “what happened to the part when” etc. I found myself judging it more than taking a second to understand and appreciate what the creators actually pulled off. I had similar feelings the first time I was introduced to the anime - I though “Cowboy Bebop” was a dumb name and something I probably wouldn’t have pulled off the shelf (back when you could find the bootlegs in China Town) - but my cousin brought me the collection and I gave it a shot. Once that intro hit, the name Cowboy Bebop totally made sense. I think the creators did a fantastic job of delivering that ‘first time watching’ thing I felt way back when I binged through the anime. I wouldn’t listen to anyone that tries to tell you what isn’t good enough for them.. just see for yourself.
