An overreach on Eastwood's part. There are a lot of great roles, or rather, stories involving 91 year old men that can be told and told well. This was not one of them.

John Brown devoted his life to creating a new consciousness of racial equality within the abolitionist movement. It is interesting that Brown is often still referred to as being "mad" while other men, who held their fellow human beings in bondage, beat them savagely and sold their children are still considered perfectly sane. This new dramatic series based on the life of John Brown premiering on Showtime titled "The Good Lord Bird" basically portrays Brown as an unhinged lunatic. I hated it.
