"Athoi" was first produced as a stage performance and then made into a film. In the film version, much of the theatre effect was retained. The experiment was successful to some extent yet, it can be argued that if the audience wanted to watch a stage show, they would not have come to a movie show. Good adaptation, bit too raunchy for my taste, could have been better edited. Good acting in parts, sometimes overdone. The English dialogue and delivery jarring. Cinematography deserves applause.

It's a great book which I first read about 40 years back, when I was a University student. I particularly remember the lucid and interesting explanation of the concept of Polis. As a teacher of Greek history, I would recommend this book for undergraduate students.
