Iโve read the novel before and even following the webtoon, and I really enjoy how the cast portrays the characters. It's not a 100% adaptation of the entire story, but it's close enough. The essential parts are well represented, including the main plot.
What stands out is the growth and developmentโnot just of the characters themselves, but also of their relationships, including marriage, family, and friendship. The redemption and self-forgiveness are also there.
Baek Saeon /Yu Yeon (YYS) is truly remarkable, as he finally accepts his true identity, breaking down the emotional barrier between himself and his beloved. Meanwhile, Hong Heejoo (CBS) evolves from wanting a divorce to choosing to stay by his side, no matter what. This marks the resolution of their misunderstandings, offering a sense of emotional liberation for both.
Sangwoo and Yuriโs budding feelings for each other was also cute, Do Jaeโs regret and redemption, the unwavering loyalty of the reporter best friend and Heejoo's friend, and also Mr. Kangโs supportive presence all contribute to the emotional depth of the story.
The portrayal of the psychopathic character by the actor playing the real Baek Saeon is outstandingโso much, I was genuinely frightened by his performance. And also up to what extent a mother's love can do for his child.
The romance is slow-burn, which I liked, and the thriller elements in each episode are well-highlighted. The way the characters shift their emotions and execute their roles is commendable. Iโll probably watch this not just twice, but many times.
One thing I would complain about, though, is the series' lengthโwhy is it only 12 episodes? If it followed the novel until the end, it could be stretch to 16 episodes, especially to delve deeper into Argan's story.
Despite this, the way they bring the characters to life left me craving a longer adaptation. YYS and CSB were perfect choices for Baek Saeon (Yu Yeon) and Hong Heejoo. The dedication and effort they gave was really something. Learning sign language for this series, girl you nailed it!
Will I recommend it? Yes. 100%.
