even as an indigenous sci-fi nerd this was entertaining to watch because although it had some resemblances to antiquated utopic-dystopic white tropes it reinvented the wheel enough to keep me enthralled

my traditional mom laughed and enjoyed every single media reference they made from the soundtrack, the tv show jokes, and even the actors themselves who are recognizable. unfortunately if you're not familiar with mexican culture, you may severely underestimate its depth and complexity. i think this is a solid superhero movie to show to your elders for example.
