A solid 3/5 game - it's not bad by any means, but I honestly don't get the hype. This, compared to genuine 5/5 RPGs like Mass Effect, Fallout, RDR2 and The Witcher 3? Horizon isn't in the same league.

The Good Bits:
- Great graphics
(the artistry of the landscapes, machines and people are awesome)
- Original story arc
(Very good spin on a post-apocalyptic doomsday narrative)
- Likable protagonist
(Ashly Burch is convincing and suits Aloy's character well)
- Enjoyable combat
(Fights are fun and there's a variety of interesting ways to deal with enemies)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bad Bits:
- Forgettable characters
(I forgot I met half of them until we reunited for the final battle, and even then, I didn't really care how they ended up)
- Repetitive and dull side quests
(Go here, fetch this, kill that - repeat...)
- Very little customization
(4 or 5 tribal outfits only. You can't even mix and match or change hairstyles. Way too rudimentary)
- Pointless dialogue options that have no repercussions depending on response.
(An illusion of choice that has no bearing on your character or their reputation outside of that immediate conversation)
- No replay value
(If you've played it once, there's no way you can play it again and get a different outcome.)
