How do you complain about โreview bombsโ when show runners have PAID critics to โreview boostโ their content for ages? The Acolyte was overhyped and โpraisedโ by critics before it was even released to the general public. As more and more episodes come out, those gleaming five star reviews are looking foolish. Episode 4 has been released up to this point and I cannot bring myself to watch the rest of the series. Episodes 1 and 2 started strong, but it has become increasingly clear, as more episodes are released, that this show completely misses the mark promised by LucasFilm. The Acolyte was heralded as a fresh restart for the series due to its place in the StarWars timeline but it is plagued (per usual) by pandering fan service to both sides - relying heavily on sprinkled easter-egg references to the main Star Wars saga and borrowed content from the non-canon Old Republic. Despite the significant time difference from the prequel trilogy, the writing team decided to throw in character cameos from the prequel trilogy despite the canon-wrecking it does. Episode 4 cements DEI as the main driving force of the show which always results in character and plot development turning into an afterthought. This is evident in episode 3. Iโm sure the 11M watchers from the first week has dwindled by now and when episode 5 is released, the viewer count will be another one less.
