Paul Campbell

I don't want to diminish the talent or efforts of the author as this book is very well written. It just seemed to be a bit of a travel log. He went here, he met her, he left her, he went somewhere else. I kept asking myself, do I care, should I read on, who knows. I'm on page 181 maybe a murder will happen, or a crash or anything that might inspire an emotion or a thought or a discription of something from the main character.

After the first two chapters I tired of the mother and the narrator to the point where I couldn't maintain concentration on the text, reading pages without comprehending what I'd read. The author failed to make me care enough about the characters. In fact I didn't like either but particularly the narrator. The navel gazing narrator was boring, for god sake, your mother died, you miss her, what's the big deal, why are you so self important that you need to indulge us with your intermost banalities. Go for a drink with a friend instead. Stopped reading half way through and skipped the the last page. This novel should have been a short story.
