All the stars in my vote go to Joaquin Phoenix's astonishing interpretation, and to music (Hildur Guðnadóttir) and cinematography (Lawrence Sher). The rest is completely missing. Overall the film is a victimistic complaint about our society at best and a pure praise of violence at worst. The audience is pushed to empathize with a psycho-killer, who is dangerously rewarded only when he finally gives up on life to fulfills his supervillain destiny.
