Very disapppointing and terribly pretentious. Long unrelated and unconnected literary and musical references really drag it out. The sort of novel that is written to garner prizes with its preciousnesss. Ultimately a dull and pretentious affair. The writer; yes, she is clever. The work, however, is dull. Starts well and then nose dives. Such is standard fare for the International Booker Prize....It could have been a good story about a relationship gone bad at half the length....They don't allow half star ratings do they ?
