I personally have really enjoyed watching Harry & Meghan's doco. I found it quite enlightening - in terms of helping the public understand the history of slavery in the UK (had no idea that Queen Elizabeth I backed it!). For those of us not born in America or the UK, there seems to be a lot more information on the history of slavery in America, but the UK is a different matter - I guess as was mentioned - that it happened elsewhere. I personally didn't know a great deal about it at all, but I do know that it absolutely would have had a huge bearing on the way Meghan was viewed, both by those within a historically white royal establishment, and the general public. Even just watching the effect that Bishop Michael Curry had (his sermon was awesome wasn't it?) on everyone at their wedding, perhaps gave us a small inkling on what was to come. Also fascinating is the Royal's relationship with the press - and the fact that the press absolutely have the upper hand in this situation - if they don't co-operate, they write stories that they know will turn the public against them! I even saw an example of this played out in my local media station in Australia. When Meghan described how inept she felt, when bowing for the first time to the Queen, a small snippet of her demonstration was removed from the whole conversation and commentary was instead added by one of the royal commentators, stating that her behaviour was completely disrespectful to the Royals. When you initially see the footage out of context, her gesture does look inappropriate, and Harry and looks uncomfortable. But when you watch the whole story, as described by Markle in the documentary, you realise that she is having a dig at herself. She is just stating how inexperienced an "green" she initially was at everything royal, and this even included her first bow to the Queen (her future grandmother). I do believe that perhaps their interview with Oprah came across perhaps a bit too strong and critical of the Royal family, which unfortunately got many on the wrong side, but now after having viewed their documentary, this to me provides more of a context, and should provide the public with a greater understanding on why they both unfortunately had to leave the situation that they were in. But one thing comes across absolutely crystal clear - that their love for one another is strong, and Harry is prepared to go above and beyond for the woman he loves!
