Worst Demi Moore film I've ever seen, even Charlie's Angels was better and that's really reaching. Hated Charlie's Angels, pathetic film. The Substance. No plot, no character development of any character, even waste-of-time characters such as old school friend who wants to invite Demi out on a date, enter the scene for a pointless 'cameo' and then have no role and don't feature in the film. Weakest script you've ever heard, zero dialogue between characters. No viewer connection with any character, due to complete lack of character development.
Film strikes me as a very weak ego trip for a poor director and bunch of ego driven producers who weren't concentrating at all on producing a film that viewers could connect with. What was their end goal? Shock? Horror? Dressing Demi Moore as the hunchback of Notre Dam? Not impressive or shocking... weak weak weak. I was honestly bored stiff by the middle of this film, watching it deteriorate into even more of an immense disappointment. Waste of more than 2hours of my precious life.
Demi, I loved Indecent Proposal, Disclosure, About Last Night, GI Jane and even Striptease. All of those were each 100 times better than this due to the simple facts that those movies had a PLOT, STORYLINE, SCRIPT, DIALOGUE, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, and The Substance somehow was published with none of the above. Demi, please let your next movie be picked more carefully.
