I wasn't a huge monsterverse fan for a long time and got into it a little before this movie came out in theaters. But what I remember before I went and saw it was the absolute worst critic reviews ever. "There is too much monster and not enough character and relationships." I just think that is flat out wrong, this film would almost do better if the humans were there to run away, react to the monsters, and explain the lore. Then let the monsters be what they are supposed to be... the stars of the film. I loved this movie and I would recommend it. This also came out around the time of Venom, which also received great fan reception but bad critic reviews, which just goes to show that you shouldn't judge a film solely on professional critics.

To be frank, 2 out of the 3 stars I give this movie are because of the last 20 minutes. Besides these 20 minutes and Gary Oldman, this film fails to live up to the standards of its predecessor, “The Silence of The Lambs”, which could be argued as the greatest film ever. Julianne Moore and the rest of the cast seem to do nearly the same tasks over and over, quite boringly I might. Anthony Hopkins turns in a good performance with the things he was given but the Jaws Effect that he had in the earlier film is gone and this diminishes the intrigue Dr. Lector has. The last 20 minutes are the only parts that weave together something that resembles “The Silence of The Lambs.” Altogether, the film is quite drab and lifeless. Out of all of the Hannibal films (based on Thomas Harris’ novels) this is the worst I have seen.
