This movie could motivate you to request a refund, especially after the hype. I havenโt read the books, but I can already tell the movie doesnโt follow one ounce of information portrayed in them.
The film is a harsh mix between Hunger Games, X-Men, and Divergent. It unfortunately hopped around too much, but was extremely predictable.
There was alot of stage-pickup from the main character, as sheโs had some acting experience (Rue - The Hunger Games <3). Not dissing on any of the actors personally, I just would expect a little more seriousness out of something with this kind of โdarkโ plot of kids being murdered for their โabilitiesโ and a revolution to stop it.
From what Iโve read, the book is alot darker in concept than what this movie ever reaches, as it appeals much to a โtweenโ audience than anyone else. That may be in part to the director, whoโs only other films have been Kung Fu Panda - and not even the original one.
If the series continues, I hope it mirrors the production budget jump Hunger Games experienced from the first to the second and third films. Even then, it has big shoes to fill.
