I came into it thinking it was gonna be like maybe a black mirror, or a twilight zone Ish type of show. But it’s not smart enough to be those things. you can guess every punchline it’s gonna be some type of scatological thing or sex thing it has and it just stays on that wavelength like it never does anything more interesting than a fart joke. It’s giving this would go so hard if you were 12 and just learned about sex and curse words.

I was really impressed by the show, I binged it in one go. I think that the show moved between the story of CK's boyhood and the critical race theory sections very smoothly. The lessons felt very natural and unforced because they lined up with the stories told in the episodes naturally I feel like a lot of black media leans on the same 5 stories (Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges MLK etc) Something I really liked was that in the CRT sections they told stories that are obscure and I actually learned new thinsg not just like a repeat. I really liked the kid they got to play baby CK really all of the actors were good. I would love to see CK host more shows on Netflix in the vein of Henry Louis Gate's "Ancient African Civilizations" with more educational content about teh black experience and black contributions to society.
