FOR ALL WHO RATED THIS LOW - REWATCH THE FILM
SPOILERS
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is Quentin Tarantinoโs love letter to Hollywood, simple as that.
The Film is a tale of two stories. On one side you have Rick Dalton, an actor best known for his work on โBounty Lawโ. Rick however is on a down end of his career, and is becoming a โhas-beenโ. On the other hand you have Sharon Tate, a rising star in the industry.
I want to clear something up, there's one particular scene this film get's criticized for. The Bruce Lee scene, which actually connects to another scene (The Boat Scene).
After the scene, people thought it was disrespectful to Mr. Lee, how could this stunt double beat Bruce Lee up? This actually proves how Cliff is unreliable when it comes to telling stories. At the beginning of the scene, there's a crowd of people surrounding the two, right? Yes. After Cliff throws Lee into the side of the car, all of those people are gone. This just goes to prove how unreliable Cliff story telling actually is.
Tarantino set this scene up for Cliff and everything following to perfection. Yes, he wants the audience to choose whether or not Cliff is reliable when it comes to story telling, but also gives the audience more of an insight into Cliff as a character.
Because Cliff being played by the great Brad Pitt, WE as the audience really want to give him, (because he's Brad Pitt) the benefit of the doubt, however it's Cliff Booth a character written by Quentin Tarantino.
This film is beautiful, truly an insight of the magic of Hollywood Quentin saw.
Give this film another try, and really focus in on the characters. This an instant cult classic, will be talked about for years to come.
