Shows promise but a complete rewrite from top to bottom would help. Lunar Jetman I played in the eighties and I didn't much like it then.
Some suggestions, respectively submitted.
1. Fuel should be collected by skimming gas giants NOT by landing on them. Collecting fuel reduces height above planet - care !
2. Mining asteroids - increase ship size by 25% and increase distance between asteroids by 25%.
3. Some players are red/green colour blind. Review mini map colour choices. See 4.
4. System map (planets etc) should be full screen. P etc to toggle.
5. Ship arrow replaced with ship used in asteroid hunting.
6. Planet item collectables should be represented by small pictorial icons and not with inverted arrows.
7. Landing pads should be 50% larger.
8. Plants and meats should be available to collect. Plants to produce medicines and meat to feed our crew.
9. Metals should be used to build useful items. Replacement lander for example. 10 minutes in the lab for a lander etc...
10. Space stations available on all systems.
11. Space stations symbols should 100% larger and Yellow.
12. Gate symbol should be 100% larger and Blue.
13. Items in storage should be a single icon with a percentage showing amount stored.
14. List of collectables should be increased to include foodstuffs, dangerous goods etc. See Elite 1/2 for a more exhaustive list.
15 Trading should be improved. Buy low sell high etc...
16. Trading should be full screen. Item - Sell Price - Buy Price.
17. In combat, weapon fires forward.
18. Medicine pack should be reusable.
19. Interceptions in space removed. Moved to space stations.
20. Enemy ships more frequent. Friendly - blue underline, Enemy - red underline.
With the above recommendations we are talking about a great game.
Staff of ten - six weeks work with the above easy touchups. Net price 25 Euros times 50,000 copies equals 1.25 millions euros and 85% average rating.
With the extra cash you can work on a proper 3d environment over the next 6 months or so.
No Man's Sky managed it. From a poor game to a masterpiece.
Good luck, John.
