I remember all female characters remain flat in the novels from the 19th century (i.e. Charles Dickens' - oh, how I hate his novels for that!). Even these days, a surprisingly small number of women are getting roles with 'lines' in movies. In this movie, however, only the male character remains flat while the main female character moves on - even a bunch of 'old' princesses are getting a new touch of development.^^
