I feel glad to write a review on this :)
Whiplash is that one movie where the number of characters portrayed is so minimal yet those characters are genuinely so impactful.
Its not some ordinary, stereotypical musical drama; its raw, honest and inspirational.
I appreciate this movie on various grounds: First, its not a complicated mess. The story line is simple but tense and quick. The plot isn't dragged out in any way and believe me, you won't feel bored even for a second.
Second, the Acting. Damn, Simmons didn't just deserve that oscar without any reason. He shines throughout the movie, and I found in him a very powerful character. Next, Miles Teller. There wouldn't have been someone better than him for it. He has not tried to over-do things; he's cool and honest when it comes to his part :). (Fact: He's is a self taught drummer!)
In all, this is a must watch movie. It celebrates the themes of passion and the sacrifices one makes to get something concrete. Indeed, the road to glory is not an easy one.
