Reading the reviews here, I can see that most of the people who saw this are not knowledgeable when it comes to film or storytelling. To start with, this movie is based off of a book by an odd ball author, who already has a weird way of writing in the first place. Then, add in a director like Eli Roth to the mix, and things are bound to be a little weird. Some people complain about the plot, or how it unfolded, but they don't understand that that is how the book was written. People also complain about how it was too scary for their little kids to watch. Well, if this happened to you, then its not the moviemakers fault. Eli Roth directed the movie to make it similar to the book. He couldn't have guessed that five year olds were going to watch it, and be scared to go to bed later on. The movie wasn't necessarily made for little kids, and it was made to resemble more of the old ambling young adult flicks of the 70s through 90s, like E.T, which are a little creepier than the happy and colorful kids genres of today. In conclusion,if you're not a parent of a toddler, or a toddler yourself, and are thinking of watching this movie, you should. In the end it's a good movie, that's a little odd, a little creepy, a little funny, and an entire genre of its own. I personally enjoyed it, and would watch it again, but I cannot speak for anyone else. I'm just trying to provide some background information, so people don't go off giving bad reviews on a relatively good movie for all the wrong reasons.
