I enjoyed watching this film, I felt it was touching on a variety of topics, such as coming of age, a mother’s love for her child, women’s stance in a world of men circa 1979, etc.. It captured well the atmosphere of the time including the speech from the President Jimmy Carter, which everybody around Dorothea found ridiculous, but she thought was “beautiful”. A very poignant portrait of the relationship between Dorothea and her son, 15-year old Jamie. I also liked William’s character, sort of carefree rolling Stone, so characteristic of the 70s… In my opinion the characters had quite a lot of depth to them and the film touched me in ways I didn’t expect, hence the 5 stars. Definitely worth watching, even if you’re a bloke.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it created seamlessly a space to think and reflect for the audience... although the main characters show little emotion and they are quite economical with their verbal communication, you can read a lot between the lines, and that’s what makes it a clever film. I recognised Ben Foster from previous films, and was impressed with the acting, but the real star of the show is Thomasin. Also lots of beautiful shots of forest to top it all off, it was a delight to watch.
