I have seen more flattering renderings of her life. Even the title is insulting and patronizing - consider its source- There have been literally 100โs of gifted artists who have lead troubled existences, and even though this piece is SOMEWHAT respectful of her civil rights work it panders to her mental issues and drug problems and flat out leaves out HUGE accomplishments in her earliest work. How about even including her smash hit โFirst Time Ever I saw Your faceโ. Hey director , maybe put down the politics and concentrate on the artist.
