I understand literary license, but when there’s no reason to alter the timeline of history except the writer’s desire to rewrite history for the sole purpose of the writer’s story, I have a problem. There are established historical facts. I get playing around with a few of them, but…. This series is supposedly “docufiction,” part documentary, part fiction. In my humble opinion, it goes so far outside of documented history as to be purely fictional. I’m not sure it could even be called historical fiction. It’s just fiction using the names of historical people. I won’t comment on the “wokeness” factor. That said, if you can suspend your disbelief, or don’t know anything at all about the history of the era, there are some redeeming features. The scenery is beautiful. The cinematography is good. The actors are decent. The action is well done. The costumes are fine. I get a kick out of all the hair braids. The show can be enjoyed as a complete and utter fiction…much like one might enjoy the show “Bridgerton.” It’s not historical. It’s definitely not a documentary. But, it’s alright.

My 9 year old granddaughter is reading Nancy Drew. She can’t watch the series though. Why does the very first scene have to be Nancy having sex? Definitely isn’t in the book!

I love Kristen Bell, and that’s why this gets 3 stars. But even she could not save this turkey. If it’s supposed to be tongue in cheek, purposely cheesy for comedic effect? It falls short. If it’s supposed to be serious? It’s terrible. After episode 7, I couldn’t watch anymore. I didn’t care who killed Chastity. Or anyone else for that matter. All I got out of this series was a craving for a big a$$ glass of wine!
