I understand literary license, but when thereโs no reason to alter the timeline of history except the writerโs desire to rewrite history for the sole purpose of the writerโs story, I have a problem. There are established historical facts. I get playing around with a few of them, butโฆ. This series is supposedly โdocufiction,โ part documentary, part fiction. In my humble opinion, it goes so far outside of documented history as to be purely fictional. Iโm not sure it could even be called historical fiction. Itโs just fiction using the names of historical people.
I wonโt comment on the โwokenessโ factor.
That said, if you can suspend your disbelief, or donโt know anything at all about the history of the era, there are some redeeming features. The scenery is beautiful. The cinematography is good. The actors are decent. The action is well done. The costumes are fine. I get a kick out of all the hair braids.
The show can be enjoyed as a complete and utter fictionโฆmuch like one might enjoy the show โBridgerton.โ Itโs not historical. Itโs definitely not a documentary. But, itโs alright.
