I liked the film. First, the cinematography and music was gentle, warm and sensorily calm and I loved how I felt while watching it. Itโs a beautifully crafted film. Second, the script and symbolism is easy to follow while the messages are deep and worth reflecting on. Song does something brave thematically - subverting the โpoor girl rich manโ troupe and daring to prioritise a love match over one of materialistic stability. I see it as powerfully feminist - a woman chooses to marry the man she loves and is financially able to support herself and the life they create together. While we never know if Lucy actually turns down her promotion for good, with her spec, charm and intelligence, she is entirely capable of living a comfortable life, void of money related marital issues that John feared. Itโs a film that places agency on the female protagonist and envisions a hopeful message for women all around the world that we can create the life and marriage that we dream of, and meet the person who loves us โlike before, now and forever. Guaranteed offer.โ (Quoted from John).
Also, the actors are fabulous and I came to respect Dakota so much as an actress - she is so captivating and interesting to watch and her chemistry with Chris Evan makes me melt. Pedro Pascal plays such an adorable character and Sophieโs character has so much depth, I empathised with her very much. Wonderful film xx
