Spoiler-free review here:
A lot of people sharing their angry opinions here, and I can't deny anybody their take on the game, but for what it's worth consider this:
NaughtyDog could have made a very pretty and fun sandbox that says nothing challenging and is simple and clean and would make them a ton of money and while we'd all be a little disappointed, we'd move on.
Instead, they chose a much tougher path. This game handles some very dark topics and challenges you, as the player, to question your own alignment in ways I very nearly hated. But I allowed myself to sit with that frustration. Why do I like the characters I like? What is right and what is wrong, in this world where there are no 'bad guys'? There was a hump, and when I got over it I found myself confronted with one of the greatest works of art I've ever experienced. As a game? I think it's a masterpiece. I beat it and immediately started a new game plus. As a narrative work of art? It's challenging in every way art should be.
If you're looking for a feel-good romp with the same good ol' characters and a happy ever after, maybe the post-apocalypse horror drama isn't for you. If you're looking to be challenged with some of the most incredible writing (and I mean CHALLENGED) then try it out.
Also the voice acting was transcendent. I voice act for games and I almost can't believe how good this game turned out. It defies logic.
