I've evolved over the past few decades. The idea of renewing a story that's already been told rings an alarm bell. Friends my age have told me they were absolutely 100% against Star Trek The Next Generation because it wasn't their crew. I had some similar feelings toward the re-envisioned Battlestar Galactica, though there's more disdain toward the original. I'm a huge SF and fantasy fan, but it felt too much like a weird Star Wars rip-off, so even as I watched, a part of me wanted something a bit different.
Fast forward to when I first heard they were going to re-do the series. TL/DR: A new version of that overdramatic old 70s thing? It was fun at the time, but seriously? What a stupid idea! I thought.
And then someone convinced me to watch it anyway, and I was blown away, the end. I've seen it through a few times, and would happily put it in my top 20 favorite TV series ever, and just for scale, that list includes The Prisoner and The Leftovers, to name two. Deep sub-plots, masterful storytelling, amazing cast, So yeah, I personally don't think Moore and Eick could have done any better, so I give it the full five stars.
