I love this movie! I remember seeing it when it first came out and was blown away by the cinematography by Hiro Narita, the music by Mark Isham, and the cast! Charles Martin Smith was the perfect choice for this role and so was Brian Dennehy. I also loved Zachary Ittimangnaq as Ootek and will forever remember Mike's (Samson Jorah's) line... "Good idea".
I really liked the pacing Carroll Ballard used. Having read the book he really gave a real sense of the feelings Farley Mowat was trying to convey and to have us witness. Also, the universality of a guy coming from civilization (a bureaucratic government job) and being dropped off in a very remote northern wilderness is a classic adventure.
I bought the CD as soon as it was available and have watched several times over the years. I'm still impressed how timeless this production is. It really holds up.
