I enjoyed the movie. It obviously sets up for the series. And I've always liked disaster/apocalypse movies. Honestly it kind of reminds me of Civil War, in that there's not as much action as I expected. I wish there was more, hence 4 out of five stars. But it was entertaining. And I went into it knowing there was a series to follow, so a lot more plot would be revealed in the series.
I read through reviews after watching it, and many reviews are deceiving. It's a movie by a Christian company, and many reviewers just have a problem with that alone and gave it one star. It's definitely not a one star movie... I could understand 3 or 4 stars, but 1 is just hating it for another reason.
There are characters in the movie who are Christian and many who are not. Hating it, just because some Christians exist in the film, is wild. I guess that precludes most movies ever made for a lot of the negative reviewers? Because in every fiction there are characters with different beliefs. There are black people in the movie, as well as Christians. So, don't watch if you can't tolerate people who look or believe differently than you I guess?
It's DEFINITELY not the best movie ever made. But it's neither the worst. I personally liked it maybe more than others because I like the genre, I went into it knowing it was a setup for the series. And I wasn't disappointed. So trying to be objective, I'd say for most people expect a 3 star movie and you will be entertained. It's not a 5, or a 1 star though.
