I read this book back in 1964 as part of my first class in Sociology and Anthropology with a great professor named Jerry Gerasimo at Lake Forest College. I loved it, and it helped open my then very narrow and provincial eyes and mind to a much wider and richer reality. I think back on this book as I begin to read The Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate’ - as is often said: there really isn’t much that is really new.
