I chose the NIV for my research into Isaiah which has lasted for almost 10 years. I needed an English translation produced by a team of people who would faithfully track its Hebrew origins and meanings as close as possible. My knowledge of ancient Hebrew is minimal to say the least, but I have derived enormous assistance here from other sources, Strongs Concordance and word numbers being the greatest of them. The NIV stands proud here and compares favourably with the English translation of the Tanakh from the Jewish Publishing Society which I also respect for reliability. Each shows its own religious bias when translating where the meaning of the original Hebrew text is uncertain. Such uncertainties are generally rare and miniscule, but some are important.
