Disappointing and Confusing – A Disservice to the Series
As a longtime fan of the "28 Days Later" franchise, I had been eagerly anticipating "28 Years Later" for over a decade, only to be left thoroughly disappointed. This film was a confusing mess that felt more like a collection of random ideas than a coherent story.
First off, the introduction of the sick mother subplot seemed completely unnecessary. It felt like a forced reason for the little boy to leave the island, contributing to a storyline that was all over the place. And let’s talk about the zombies—why were they all running around completely naked? It’s baffling to think they all made a collective decision to strip off their clothes.
The film also presented some outrageous concepts that never got the attention they deserved. For example, how does an infected person get pregnant and give birth to a healthy uninfected child? These intriguing ideas about the infection could have been explored further, but they were brushed aside in favor of chaotic storytelling.
The first two films in this series were captivating and kept me on the edge of my seat. I've watched them multiple times over the past 23 years, and the contrast with this latest installment is stark. It felt as if a group of writers threw together different subpar storylines to meet a deadline, lacking the suspense and depth that made the originals so compelling.
I literally have nothing positive to say about this movie. It was such a letdown that I found myself walking out before the credits rolled—something I’ve never done in all my years of moviegoing. I’m still frustrated thinking about how it tarnished the legacy of the first two films.
Overall, "28 Years Later" feels like a misstep for a franchise that started with such promise. It seems to have been created by different minds who didn't understand the essence of what made the originals great. If you value the first two films, I'd recommend skipping this one.
