when you see an article about an anime with "gunslinger girls" you expect action and fan service. but what it truly is, is a very different interpretation of that phrase: is it is a lovely story of emotional growth with a confrontation of the deeply morbid truth.
the setup (the secret agency) fits perfectly for this "confrontation of the truth" which every adolescent must confront (which fits the age of the main characters).
the series gave two massive emotional arrows through the heart, with two big emotional steps in the middle and the end of the series.
it tackles the reality of what ideology does to us all as another part of the "morbid truth" and shows how different people confront this meta-challenge (although chisato's approach does get most of the spotlight).
I do think the other top lycoris didn't properly develop before getting her "forgiveness" in the story -but I digress.
this series is beautiful and hits deep -gunsliger girls
