Oh this film... Where do I begin? Well, any film with Frances McDormand has me at the mere mention of her name. So of course, I was always going to go see Nomadland for this reason alone. I just get a lump in my throat the moment I reflect on Nomadland. If only for the scene where Bob and Fern talk about their grief, this film is a must see. This is a film about grief and transformation. You can't have one without the other. This is Fern's transformation and at the end, you feel she's just at the beginning of the transformative part of her grief. Nomadic living and the compassion and experiences of those around her become the ingredients that transform her grief into the healing journey she embarks on at the end of the film, in my opinion. That final scene of her van going down the road is the beginning of her journey as Living Fern as opposed to just Remembering Fern. It's one for the heart. It's one that stays with you forever, Nomadland.
