While the show does a decent job of playing off the original series fan's nostalgia, like many sitcoms the show struggles with an accurate timeline. taking place in the summer of 1995, 15 years after the original shows in universe conclusion, leaves no time to have several of the cast be born let alone conceived. During the last season Topher Grace's character, eric Forman left the show and did not return until the final when he and donna reconcile and restart their relationship. While Aston Kutcher and Melia Kunis in real life have gone on strong starting a family at the end of the original their characters were in completely different places. Michael Kelso had moved to Chicago to be close to his daughter from the season prior, and Jackie was just beginning a relationship with Fez. While many fans of the old show may try to forget that the final season ever took place Somethings like multiple characters' pregnancies or lack thereof shouldn't. Many of the older cast end up falling into earlier season versions of themselves making all their original hard work to grow and move past their negative feel forgotten for the sake of fan nostalgia. despite the creator sacrificing consistency with the older cast to focus on the new, these upcoming talents have yet to find the connection their parents had in this first season. While many of these newcomers play their individual roles well the relationships between the entire group still have a long way to go. With season 2 having already been greenlit this reviewer has hope that this show can strike gold.
