Freelance at a fire scene is not aloud, you wouldn't be at work long before someone calls you down if you kept it up you wouldn't be there long. Go play with a volunteers department! If a command post is not used, or not set up yet the first commanding officer there, is your boss he will assign jobs you work with your commander as his team, you work under the command of a truck, engine, watertender captain, no matter what all assignments are going on your place is with your crew and commander at all times. It's not just pick up a hose and start your own little thing! A lot of things like search and resque, entry points established, equipment placement for organized. It's just not like on TV.
