I walked out of the theater feeling very disappointed. The film promised suspense and horror, but what it delivered was a slow, confusing story filled with endless flashbacks, forced symbolism, and unresolved plot points. Instead of building tension, it dragged on and left major questions unanswered.
Here are some key issues I found:
Excessive flashbacks: They interrupted the flow of the story and led nowhere, making the pacing painfully slow and repetitive.
Plot holes and inconsistencies: The aunt appearing out of nowhere, the random black goo on the father, and the unexplained obsession with parasites are just a few examples.
Unclear motivations: The auntโs reasons for kidnapping children were never properly explained, nor was the significance of elements like the bell, tree worship, or the giant floating gun.
Poor character use: Several characters (the affair subplot, the father, the drug addict) felt completely unnecessary and didnโt add to the narrative. The parents were sidelined while children took on implausible confrontations.
Unresolved arcs: Many charactersโ stories had no real conclusion, leaving the ending unsatisfying.
Tone issues: Forced humor, corny dialogue, and over-the-top visuals undercut any chance of genuine horror.
Mismatched marketing: The trailer promised a very different experience from what the film actually delivered.
Overall, the movie tried to be deep and scary but ended up messy, incoherent, and frustrating. It left too many loose ends and failed to provide closure for the characters. I wouldnโt recommend it.
