I read the book by Alex Scarrow ( which the Amazon TV series was based on) a number of years ago, I seem to remember the story being quite gripping - and hence looked forward to watching the TV adaptation. Sadly, the TV adaptation did not come close to 'gripping' . My memory is by no means perfect but I do not recall a bacterial agent affecting the oil or a meaningless sub-story of a blind son and a trip to Paris for eye surgery.. Cars did not spontaneously ignite due to 'bad' fuel - they simply ran out. Unlike the TV series the book detailed more on the breakdown of society due to due food supplies being unable to make it to the stores. There was no ECO Terrorist group in the novel - but the bad guys were a sinister bunch of US based mega rich persons who basically 'ran the world' - they ordered strategic strikes on oil refineries and shipping lanes to strangle the world's oil supply. The famlly which the novel focussed was thought to have accidentally stumbled on or overhead the sinister group's plans and was therefore relentlessly pursued by a series of hitmen. I agree that the acting of Fox and Frogget in the TV series was quite good - the other characters - especially our government officials. - not good. If the TV adaptation had stuck more to the original novel it could have been brilliant. Sorry - read the book - don't watch this
