I was very young when my dad took me to see World War Z in theaters. I absolutely loved it, rewatching it after our Covid pandemic it feels so much heavier too. Every slow moment had intention, especially with the contrast to both the speed of the zombies and rate of the infection itself within this movie. The main character was very very smart and thatโs another thing I love. Other zombie themed media of back then felt like human survivors never behaved as rationally, at least in my opinion. His careful observation and growing understanding of how the infection worked, both protecting himself and others throughout the film and ultimately leading to a cure is phenomenal. Very fun take on the zombie trope and also incredibly unique.
Watching this movie as a kid definitely sparked my love for thriller/horror genres and endless search to find new and interesting takes on the zombie genre especially. It set a good bar for what I found enjoyable for films.
