Professor Buell brings a long career and critical thinking to Thoreau and his works, especially Walden, and the essay Cuvil Disobedience. There is much to savor in this book and many insights to ponder. There are many passages that I wish I could have written if only I had the skill, but the thrill of discovering a new intriguing thought that Buell pulled out from Thoreau is eye opening.
This is probably not a book for newcomers to the world of Thoreau, but it is beautifully written and profitable to read and study.
