As a Muslim viewer, I’m deeply disappointed with Genie, Make a Wish. The drama uses sacred Islamic names and stories — especially the name Iblis — in a fantasy romance setting that feels very disrespectful to my religion. In Islam, Iblis is not just a fictional villain; he represents evil and disobedience to Allah. Turning that figure into a romantic or sympathetic character is completely inappropriate. Faith and entertainment should be treated separately. Religious names, verses, and stories shouldn’t be changed or romanticized for drama or entertainment value. It shows a lack of understanding and sensitivity toward Muslim beliefs. I expected creativity and respect, but instead, I found misrepresentation and insensitivity. I strongly hope future K-dramas avoid using Islamic elements this way. It’s important to respect all religions, not use them as fantasy inspiration.
