Walking into a Minecraft movie, I was skeptic that it would to carry the immense legacy that Minecraft has created. However, this masterpiece blew all of my skepticism away like a creeper in Steveโs creeper farm. This film was a nonstop adventure of wonder and excitement. There wasnโt a full moment, any silence was immediately filled by the beautifully crafted dialogue and screams of joy from the audience.
Jack Blackโs role as the main hero Steve was impeccable and quite possibly one of his greatest roles. His unique take on the character was delightful to watch and every line was spoken with an infectious level of enthusiasm (I was in tears when he announced โIโฆam Steveโ). This will surely go down as history as one of the greatest pieces of acting in the history of cinema. Steveโs arc throughout the film (donโt worry I will not spoil it as I believe everyone should be able to experience this for themselves) was a beautiful and occasionally immensely touching. It really made me think about myself and my role in this world.
Garret โthe garbage manโ Garrison (played by Jason Momoa) was another fine member of the core characters. He too had a very deep and emotional arc that left me in tears. His acting skill really shone through such a incredibly well written character. While not quite able to top the man himself (Steve) he was still a joy in every scene.
One of my only complaints is that the rest of the cast ended up with much less importance in the story and thus ended up feeling somewhat unnecessary. This was not a fault of the actors, who all played their parts wonderfully, but rather the script let them down somewhat. What they were given to do however was entertaining.
Without spoiling this masterpiece, there is little else I can say. I do recommend that everybody should see this film. Whether you are long time fans of the series or completely new to the franchise, this film has something for everyone. Ignore all of the critics, they are not advanced enough to understand the true complexity and value that this film holds.
In short, ABSOLUTE CINEMA. You are doing yourself a disservice if you do not watch this film on the big screen (just remember to bring tissues, you will need them)
