This is the first Godzilla film I ever watched in full and I was genuinely impressed by it. Not at all what I was expecting from a monster film. It surprised me that a monster movie could make me feel sympathetic and emotional for both the monster and the innocent people caught in its path of destruction. I was also able to enjoy the amount of destruction Godzilla caused.
I think the only thing that may get mixed opinions from viewers is the narrative and involvement of the Japanese government in the story. I enjoyed it though and thought it served the story well. I heard that itโs a reflection of Japanese culture with how the government worked, so thatโs what interested me a lot as an American. I enjoyed the message of the movie.
I hope others can enjoy this film as much as I did. It made me instantly go to find Godzilla Minus One, which is another great film.
