A great series which really pushed the idea out there that there's so much more to womens' roles for actresses aged 40+ (bearing in mind Eva Longoria was only 29 at the start of the series).
The show is not afraid to go to some deep dark places like widowhood, adultery, coming out, abuse, drug addiction, cancer and suicide to name but a few.
Up until season 4, the plot is strong, the gags are well-acted and you just want to keep coming back for more. Seasons 5 and 6 are still good, but when actresses Nicolette Sheridan and Dana Delany leave the series you notice their absence remarkably.
Season 7, was in my opinion, a complete write-off and if it wasn't for the last few episodes I would have stopped watching the show altogether. The last 6 episodes of that season are a good recovery of what was otherwise a poor year for the show in terms of quality and storylining. A lot of characters were wasted that year including Keith, Bree's new love interest, and even Vanessa Williams, fresh from her stint on Ugly Betty couldn't really do much to improve it when she first arrived (that said, season 8 she really found her feet and became a good character to watch).
Season 8 was mainly about recovery and tying up loose ends, something the show managed to achieve very well.
All in all, it's a great show and has the same number of episodes as Pretty Little Liars, so if you loved that, you'll like this too. That said, it's NOT as good as the Australian drama Wentworth which has just started broadcasting it's 8th season and is of far superior quality to Desperate Housewives.
