Uglies is a dull boring typical teen drama hunger games copycat film, it’s you typical one teen steps out again the conditioning and reluctantly rebels, the writing is poor the cgi is mediocre at best and insulting at worst, the way the characters relationships developed was dull and unconvincing. The only good thing about this movie was Laverne Cox and yet she was cast as a lackluster and very obvious villain who was a poor copy of snow from hunger games, her character had little menace because she was written without menace and yet she did imbue her role with some life, about the only actor who did in the entire movie, I watched it all only 5 minutes ago and yet I’ve forgotten pretty much the whole plot. The plot was almost nonexistent and predictable from the get go, the moment they mentioned how bad the “rusties” were and their new “amazing power flower” was so much better I called it that they flowers were bad and hey presto they’re killing the planet, then there’s the pretty and ugly concept, the pretties just looked like they were using a simple filter and they features they claimed were pretty? All typically white features, a VERY bad look one which I don’t know how they missed. All in all the film lacked substance and imagination, despite its grand budget it fell short of delivering a franchise starting blockbuster and instead delivered a flop that was dead on arrival, I do hope they don’t continue the series and let sleeping dogs lie.
