This is my favorite time of the year as we approach Halloween, new horror movies and shows are prepping for release on all platforms. So I am a horror movie fan and have some favorites, but this movie just didn’t deliver. I’m not familiar with the original story this movie is pulling from yet, but will research that at a later time. The coherence of the movie was off, there was no character development, the scares were predictable and nothing I hadn’t seen before. …… As I was writing this review I saw the ending….. the house the family was living in was the Demon House, and the family was the Ammons……. So back to the movie, I like and respect Glenn Close, but the moment she appeared in demon form made me laugh, I just couldn’t buy it. I enjoyed Caleb McGaughlin from Stranger Things fame, but he had so few lines. Andra Day made it work with what she was given. Mo’Nique was great in her role as the CPS officer. Omar Epps’ appearance was a waste; his character made no difference in the story whatsoever. Anthony Jenkins, the child actor, did well. Aunjanue Elllis-Taylor was interesting but underdeveloped. All other characters were meh. I will not watch this again, unlike my favorite horror movies I like to watch every season.
