I felt that the jumping around of time frames was over done and not needed. What would have made this film more moving and emotional to me what have been to see the romance blossom for the protagonist and then see how it developed and ended, I'm not sure whether I liked this film or not, I just felt it was lacking something, but perhaps that was the overall point of loss and longing.
