This is one of those films that you watch and wonder - why do people like it so much?
Hear me out, don't scroll past this just yet. Having just watched the movie myself - I find the story lacking a great deal of substance or entertainment value. The most fun part of this storyline should be, without doubt, Carrie's use of her telekinetic skills to exact vengeance on her bullies. But the screenwriters choose not to let you savour it but to just rush it all and end the movie as soon as possible. The film takes 60-70 min to reach its climax - fleshing out Carrie as a character and the world around her - and then loses steam in the next 10-15min, unravelling the entire plot and just killing off characters for fun.
So am I saying Carrie is a bad story? Not really. The film adaptation doesn't do the original book justice. The book involves a more entertaining and nuanced build-up and ending which will probably give you what you were looking for. I understand some of the appeal of this film - but I think the world's looking at it with rose-tinted glasses. Something, that I believe, it doesn't deserve.
