Although I am not familiar with Dan Gilroy's previous work, I thoroughly enjoyed Velvet Buzzsaw for what it was. Upon seeing the trailer a few weeks back, my attention was immediately caught. I can admit to feeling a bit disappointed that Netflix decided to spoil a majority of the more intense scenes in the trailer itself, but this did not take away from the experience. Jake Gyllenhaal provides a fantastic performance as Morf, and Toni Collette brought her A game to the role of Gretchen. One thing that took me off guard was the pacing of this film, although it stands in at nearly 2 hours it did not feel slow whatsoever. For the most part, Velvet Buzzsaw is a must watch if you are a fan of the Horror/Suspense genre of films. It provides a fresh concept and intriguing story which I believe any avid movie buff can appreciate. I'm glad Netflix is willing to allow filmmakers to take risks and execute their vision how they wish because in a world full of Happy Death Day and Paranormal Activity mediocrity it is a breath of fresh air to see a film like Velvet Buzzsaw.
