So I am seeing a lot of reviews comparing this to left 4 dead since its made by the same studio and they are similar games. I completely understand this approach but I do feel it impacts people's critique a little too much so I'm gonna focus on just the game as it is and not draw it back to the left 4 dead series.
Now I played the beta quite a bit and there were quite a few bugs that were very frustrating. I couldn't swap weapons, AI getting stuck way too often but as it was in beta it was acceptable. But as the game has now been fully releases I was able to experience the finished product and I must say that I am very pleased with it.
The graphics are brilliant. I love the environment and just surfing through the levels on the easiest difficulty just to enjoy the sights.
The guns are all so satisfying to use with their sound design and all feel fair to their damage output, accuracy etc. Which ones you use are down to preference since they are all viable options and can pair well with the right cards.
The AI however is still a bit bugged. They are better now, using grenades and molotovs and healing items too, but still get stuck occasionally on fences posts you name it. As for the enemy AI they are great to go against. Some of the special infected are OP compared to others but I find them all quite daunting
In terms of the risk and reward aspect of the game, it fits perfectly. Only 3 difficulty but definitely fit how they are named. And the rewards being supply points that you can use for skins to better cards (and they are not purchasable) really gives players the motivation to stay in games regardless of weather they are losing to attempt to win those points.
During the beta, I was extremely confused by the card system and found it to be really fragmented. But since the games release, it's much simpler and easier to understand. I love the abundance of cards that allow a whole range of strategy to Co op. This is also vital to talk to teammates about what you will bring if your going for the hardest difficulty. It's satisfying to try several different decks because they can have a massive impact on how well the missions go.
I give this game a 4 because its not perfect. I'm a huge shooter fan and longtime zombies fan too and this game has everything I would want in a zombie, level game. The only slip ups are the few bugs still in the game but if you play with a full team of friends and you like finding different strategy to win and conquer then you will have no problem and love this game.
I recommend everyone at least try this game. It's a great game for meeting other players (especially since its crossplay) and playing with current friends.
