I’ve watched this movie a few times to see what I may have missed. I agree it’s a difficult watch. Everyone has already said a lot about the nature vs nurture and about the mother not being prepared for motherhood. So I won’t repeat those things. One comment I’d like to add is the use of the red paint splattered on the house. While she is cleaning it, and it is dripping from her hands, I feel it represents blood on her hands. Well done!

I like Denis O’Hare. He’s done good work in American Horror Story. It’s not his fault here, just a bad script. But everyone else was just awful. Especially the daughter. I dreaded every time she opened her mouth. Folks are talking about watching this a second time. No way. I’m only watching it through because I paid for it. Otherwise I would have shut it off after about fifteen minutes in.
